Kinetic is seeking an Admin & Finance Coordinator. This is a part-time position starting March or April 2022. We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in the arts and, more specifically, dance and the performing arts. This is a great position for someone who already has or would like to gain experience with the operations of an arts-based not-for-profit organization. While previous experience is an asset, Kinetic is committed to building capacity in the dance sector. We are happy to provide training and support for the right candidate to build the skills necessary for the position.

Kinetic is a non-profit organization dedicated to the creation, development, and presentation of contemporary dance. Based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), we support professional dance artists by providing workshops, classes, artistic residencies, a seasonal program of finished and unfinished works, and more. We aim to foster a supportive, responsive, and flexible environment that allows dance artists at all levels to develop to their full artistic potential.

About the Team:

The Admin & Finance Coordinator will become part of the team that runs Kinetic, joining the Artistic Director and the Administrative Director. While each team member works largely independently and reports directly to the Kinetic Board of Directors, the three positions also work in close collaboration. The Admin & Finance Coordinator will be supported as necessary by the Artistic Director and the Administrative Director. 

About the Job:

The Admin & Finance Coordinator holds a key position in Kinetic, and manages the financial aspects of the organization. The Admin & Finance Coordinator will maintain and develop the policies and procedures necessary to ensure the sound financial management of the organization, with the overall goal of supporting Nova Scotia’s dance community and ecology. The Admin & Finance Coordinator will also provide event support, develop short and long-term fundraising strategies and provide research on foundations and additional funding sources for Kinetic. 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have an interest in dance & the performing arts.

  • Be a highly motivated, organized and self-directed individual, but also capable of working in a spirit of collaboration and cooperation.

  • Be detail-oriented.

  • Have strong communication skills.

  • Have some knowledge of or experience in the non-profit arts sector or arts administration.

  • Be comfortable with and able to develop budgeting, grant writing, and record keeping skills.

The ideal candidate may also:

  • Be, or have been, a working artist.

  • Have a strong skill set in financial management, including budgeting, record keeping, CRA reporting, granting templates (ideally including CADAC) and final reports. Book-keeping skills are a plus.

  • Have a high level of comfort and knowledge with operational granting systems.

  • Have experience in fund-raising and fund development.

  • Have knowledge of the contemporary dance community in Kjipuktuk (Halifax) or elsewhere.

  • Have experience with MAC word processing, spreadsheets, databases, budget templates, CADAC

In line with principles of equitable hiring, Kinetic will support extra training as necessary for an ideal candidate who possesses some but not all these skills.

Position & Salary:

  • The Admin & Finance Coordinator is self-employed, often working out of their own home, and reporting directly to the Board of Directors.

  • Approximate average hours: 8 per week. Hours will vary from week to week, depending on activities.

  • Pay = $9,000.00 - $10,000.00 a year, depending on skills and experience.
