For 29 years Kinetic Studio, partnering with Dance Nova Scotia, the provincial umbrella dance organization, has been a vital force in the dance community - staging performances, offering professional development workshops, assisting young choreographers, and working to raise the profile of contemporary dance in the province. The flagship of our activities is the Kinetic Studio Performance Series - dance events that run annually at our home studio of DANSpace and at professional theatres in the community. Choreographers from across Nova Scotia participate in the series as well as invited guests from other parts of Atlantic Canada, and beyond!

Kinetic Studio sponsors professional development opportunities for the province's dance community. Past projects have included Project Pulse with conductor/composer Peter Wiegold, Margie Gillis' dynamic workshop Dancing From the Inside Out, a lighting design workshop with Leigh-Anne Vardy, Susie Burpee's exciting and innovative Creator's Workshop, Katherine Duncanson's voice/movement workshop, a Cameradance workshop with filmmaker Lisa Cochrane, and a workshop for great dancers with a great choreographer – Serge Bennathan.

Kinetic Studio collaborates annually with Dance Nova Scotia in producing Taking Steps to Fly, an opportunity for aspiring young choreographers to create their first dance works. We believe in helping the next generation of dance artists in their artistic careers. We are also involved in the annual adjudication of the Pat Richards Award which recognizes the talents and abilities of young choreographers.

Kinetic Studio also works with groups like Dance Nova Scotia and Live Art Dance Productions on projects of mutual interest, and advocates on behalf of the contemporary dance community on national, provincial, and municipal levels. We want to ensure that the voice of contemporary dance is heard!
